You probably have heard this phrase many times:

“XX% of home-based businesses fail in their first year.”

It is rarely the business that fails, but the person running it… and that’s normal.

Let me tell you why.

People tend to gravitate towards EXTREMES.

Either all good… or all bad.

Either all love… or all hate.

Either know all… or only take action.

It is so HARD for some people to stay in the middle and balance.

You will be more successful in anything you do, if you stay balanced.

Can you cook something using just one ingredient?

I personally can’t. You need to add the right quantity of each ingredient to make a tasty meal.

SUCCESS is a meal. It has specific ingredients that you need to combine to become successful.

RK + NA = Failure

No matter how much you know and how many super powerful tools you have, you are going to fail if you don’t use them.

That’s right, if you have the Right Knowledge (business know-how) and you take No Action… you will eventually FAIL.

NK + MA = Failure

No matter how much action you take and implement, you are going to fail if you don’t know what to focus on.

That’s right, if you take Massive Action, yet you have No Knowledge… you will eventually FAIL.

Can you win a tennis match with your eyes closed? Exactly. You can’t just wave your tennis bat around and hope it will eventually hit the ball. The right information that vision provides has to be there to tell you where exactly to wave your bat so that it hist the ball.

RK + MA = Success

However, if you combine the Right Knowledge with Massive Action, you will eventually reach SUCCESS.

LUCK – Labor Under Correct Knowledge

You can get the Right Knowledge either by spending time on acquiring your own experience, or by spending money on borrowing other people’s experience.

Massive Action can either be done by you personally, or by others who you pay to do it for you.

I’m being general because there is no absolute Right Knowledge and there is no absolute amount of Massive Action you can take.

It all depends on what kind of business you are in and many other variables.

Do you have all of the ingredients to make your business a success?

Blogging, or writing in general, they come to some people very easily. However, not everyone is good at writing. It doesn’t mean they don’t have something to say, it simply means they somehow are having problem converting whatever they have to say into writing. Cover the thoughts inside their mind into letters, words, sentences and paragraphs.

As an Internet marketer you have to be able to create content on demand.

Content creation is one of the stumbling points for some Internet marketers because they have to hire somebody to write articles for them. This takes money and time that you have to wait for the content to be written.

There is nothing wrong with hiring someone from Elance.com to write articles for you, but sometimes you need something quick and you know the topic fairly well. Every situation is different.

Now, if that’s specialized content and you’re not an expert in that field, then…hiring a writer makes sense. However, when you are an expert and you simply want to communicate your expertise to others through writing, there is no need to hire anybody else did it for you if you can do it your self — faster, cheaper, and with minimum effort.

“There Is A Book Inside Of You Waiting To Be Written”

If you have the content in your head, then there is no reason why you can not put it into writing. It is the process that intimidates some people. When you’re writing, most of the time you read the sentence that you wrote or the paragraph to see if it sounds okay. You go back and forth, taking this and that, deleting, substituting, and changing things around. That takes a lot of time and you get frustrated.

Other result, you thing that you cannot write.

Sometimes, to be able to write well you need to stop looking behind us going forward by looking only forward.

What I’m saying is that you need to be able to transfer everything you’ve got in your mind onto paper and only when you’re done, then go back and edit whatever you’ve got.

Remember this: if you cannot commit yourself to doing something big, then commit yourself first doing something small. Doing something so small that is almost impossible to fail at. Over time, you’ll be able to do that big thing that you weren’t able to do in the first place.

I’m going to introduce you to two software that I use in order to create content at speed of sound. Basically, if it’s text — consider it a piece of cake.

Recently, I started using MacSpeech Dictate, which is a voice recognition software for Mac operating system. There is also one for PCs or Windows operating system, which is called Dragon Naturally Speaking. (By the way, those are not affiliate links) I use this software to create any kind of text content. It makes content creation so easy that it’s unbelievable.

Plus, the software is relatively precise on the recognition that it makes writing, or should I say talking, very smooth process.

2 Illusive Disadvantages Of Using Speech Recognition Software:

Though there are a couple of disadvantages to using speech recognition software to create content.

One of the disadvantages is that after writing with your mouth you need to go back and format the text a little bit here and there to make it easier for people to read. After all, your speech is different than the written word. When speaking, we might make grammatical errors or say something that would sound differently when written down.

However, some may argue that this very disadvantage makes this kind of writing more natural sounding and therefore much more readable.

In fact, I am writing with my mouth at this very moment. When done writing this blog post, I’m going to format this text so that it is appealing to the eye and is much more readable than plain text. By formatting I mean bolding some important words, writing some headlines for chunks of paragraphs, etc.

Another disadvantage is that sometimes the software doesn’t quite understand some words and substitutes them with another word, which sounds very similar. This can be funny.

For example, the other day I was writing about affiliate marketing and instead of affiliate marketing, the software put down food marketing.

Do you see what I’m talking about?

However, this is not a huge disadvantage because granted you are saving tons of time by using speech to text technology and mistakes like that shouldn’t stop you from using it.

The mindset you want to have is: Ready, Fire, Aim!

What this means is that you don’t have to get things right, you just have to get them going you can always go back and change whatever you want.

Being perfectionist, most of the time stops you from doing things, which might hinder your progress. Sometimes you just have to do it –get things going. If you don’t act, you will never know if that was a success waiting to happen or failure.

Guess why?

Because you never took the necessary steps to find out. When you’re ready go get one of the speech recognition software mentioned above and start writing with your mouth, or should I say, writing at the speed of sound.

This is Part 4 in the series of posts titled: “How To Stop Procrastination and Analysis Paralysis.” Today, we will find out how to deal with having too many things to do during the day and “not having time” for the productive tasks.

C) If you live in a big city or simply have a very busy life filled with different responsibilities, places you have to be at, and things you have to get done, then you probably have felt the way I sometimes did. I am talking about not having to show for at the end of day. Don’t get me wrong, the day may have seemed to be extremely busy and tiring, but when you go over the things you did, none of those things contributed towards your personal goals and getting you closer to having an online business.

One of the ways to deal with being “busy” and postponing the important tasks is to be in the “NOW” and feeling centered. Being in the “NOW state” or in the Present is a very important skill, which will not only help you build your business, but also increase the quality of your life and make you, as well as the people around you, happier. It takes time and some effort to acquire this skill; however, it is absolutely worth the effort when you make it part of your everyday life.

So, to center yourself, you simply need to take several deep breaths using your diaphragm instead of your chest.

It should look something like this:

Deep Breath In – stomach expands outward, while chest stays the same.

Slowly Breath Out – stomach contracts inward, while chest does not move.

Using diaphragm when breathing helps breath deeper and as a result calms down the body and mind. Usually, this type of breathing is used when meditating.

The ultimate goal of being centered is that you will be able to focus much better and when you focus on one task, it gets done faster and with less perceived effort.

It may take you 10 minutes to complete something from start to finish when focused, instead of spending 30 minutes doing 2 tasks at the same time going back and forth between them and not completing them hundred percent.

I will conclude with a metaphor, as I have promised in the previous posts from this series (How To Stop Procrastination and Analysis Paralysis).

“The Street Of Green Lights…” Let’s imagine you are sitting in your car at a stop light, waiting to start moving towards your destination, which happens to be on the other end of this street. However, you decide to wait until all the stop lights on the way to your destination turn GREEN, so that you don’t have to stop at each stop light. This would be so much easier and hassle free, because you will get to your destination faster. One word describing this would be – PERFECT, and that that would be the best thing to do, RIGHT? Unfortunately, this would be the WRONG way of getting what you want. Let’s think about it. Will there ever be this PERFECT situation, where all the stop lights ahead are green at the same time? Not very probable… Don’t waist your time waiting for the perfect time to start something… just get it going as soon as possible. Simply put: Take your journeys toward your goals and dreams ”one stop light at a time…”

This is Part 3 in the series of posts titled: “How To Stop Procrastination and Analysis Paralysis.” Today, we will find out how to deal with over analyzing and being paralyzed as a result. Also, we will discuss how to deal with information overload.

A) Its very easy to start over analyzing when there is an information overload and you know “too much” or simply have too much information at your disposal. The Internet is full of information about anything and if you concentrate on accumulating more and more of it without consuming and actually putting it to use, you will soon get overwhelmed and might not even read or otherwise consume any of it.

The end result in this case would be: Time Lost… None, or Little Information Gained… No real results…

OR

You learn all kinds of wonderful things that you can do without applying it and start building your business in your mind instead of online… The more you learn, the bigger and better your imaginary business becomes, but the problem is that you can’t material profit from an imaginary business, can you?

As a result of having an information overload, you develop signs of Analysis Paralysis either you have too much information (ebooks, courses, video training, etc.) and don’t know where to start consuming it or you have learned a lot of information (‘too much’) and want to make sure everything is done right and according to what you already know.

Most of the time, you just need to ACT, and the faster you act, the faster you are going to get the results. The faster you get the results, the sooner you know if you should continue doing it.

Scary Point: You see… you might be planning and planning to do something that doesn’t really work anymore. Buy the time you plan out every single piece and analyze every inch of that decision, that tactic or strategy might not even work for you or simply past the opportunity threshold.

“The Faster You Fail, The Sooner You Will Succeed” (more on this in later posts)

There are TWO mindsets that you can adapt in order to overcome Analysis Paralysis and Information Overload issues.

1. You Don’t Have To Get It Right, You Simply Have To Get It Going.

In other words, you don’t have to be perfect the first time. It is important to get something rolling by getting the major pieces that are essential and you can always come back to fix the small things and tweak things.

This is extremely important on the Internet, considering how fast things move, happen and change online.

Don’t sweat the small stuff, most of the time, it can be fixed faster than you think.

2. Ready! Fire! Aim!

No, I didn’t get it wrong, this is the fast track version…

This is another Anti Analysis Paralysis mindset that you can adopt and it is similar to the previous one.

Aiming in this case would be analyzing, but you want to Fire first. Firing in this case would be getting something implemented and getting some action (visitors, sales, comments, clicks, etc.). As soon as you get some action and some results, then you can analyze, plan, and decide if it makes sense continuing doing the same thing, varying something to get different results, or completely abandoning the idea and moving on to the next idea.

These two mindsets should be enough for you to stop over analyzing and Analysis Paralysis. There is a short metaphor that I would like to share with you to better illustrate the mindsets mentioned above and general antidote for procrastination and Analysis Paralysis.

Look for the metaphor in Part 4 from this series titled: ”How To Stop Procrastination And Analysis Paralysis.”

In the Part 1, we looked at what usually causes a person to procrastinate and mentioned what Analysis Paralysis is. In the Part 2, we are going to look at the possible practical solutions to stop procrastination and Analysis Paralysis (Information Overload).

Solutions:

B) It is true that some feeling of anxiety can be linked to a particular task, action, or situation. However, there is a way to overcome that if you truly want to reach the end result you desire.

Would you agree that it is much harder to run a 20-mile marathon, than 500 feet (to get bread at Trader Jones)?

YES! Of course it is HARDER… BUT NOT HARD.

You don’t want to run 20 miles if you never ran more than 1 mile without resting. Of course you are not going to want to do a 20-mile marathon EVER AGAIN… because it is freaking painful, you will avoid it at any cost. Congratulations! You just linked pain and running together and the next time you hear anything associated with running a marathon, you are going to recall (remember) that pain.

In order to avoid scenarios like the one above, we need to apply what is called ‘CHUNKING’. The idea is to start from really easy tasks (500 feet run) and graduate to more complicated ones (2 miles, 4 miles, 6 miles, etc.). This way, even if you already have anxiety associated with doing the task, you can start from a very small task that resembles the original and slowly but surely move to the actual task.

Principle: Break big tasks into many small tasks to get them done easier.

This method allows you to build little by little on the previous experience and become even better at doing the task than if you were to start doing what ‘other runners have practiced for 2 years’ and get discouraged.

Example: You procrastinate opening an account at RentACoder.com and posting a project even though other people have gotten tremendous results and saved a lot time.

1. At first, you just would go open a free account with RentACoder.com and Log Out. DONE

2. The next time, you would Log In and just look around and familiarize yourself with what is where, how do you post a bid request, what happens when you press this button, that link… and Log Out. DONE

3. Now that you are somewhat familiar with the interface and have an idea about how things work, think of the project that you would want to have somebody else do for you and write down as much detail as possible on a piece of paper (bullet points, visual representations, tables, etc.). DONE

4. Once you are done with that, simply Log In to RentACoder.com and create a bid request while following the details you wrote down (cheat sheet). DONE

5. Congratulations! You overcame the biggest barrier… now, simply ‘pick up the remaining small pieces’ (Go back to check how many people bid, choose the right person, message back and forth to further communicate your vision to the RentACoder Programmer) and go with the flow. DONE

6. Write down your accomplishment to make yourself more confident in your abilities to get things done and add to your mental strength. DONE

Metaphore:

“There are 10 stair steps in front of you. Is it possible to jump straight to the 10th one with one jump? Yes it is, but in order to that, others have practiced doing it many times before succeeding and possibly have broken one or two bones in the process.” “Don’t try to jump to the 10th stair right away because you might never ever want to jump even to the 5th stair because of the possible injuries.” “Instead, take one step (or two steps) at a time. By doing this you will get to the 10th stair much faster, with less effort and risk on your part.”

In the Part 2, we covered how to stop procrastination in the case of feeling mild anxiety associated with a particular task or situation. In the Part 3 of this series titled: “How To Stop Procrastination and Analysis Paralysis,” we will discuss the solution for having Analysis Paralysis.

Did you ever wonder what causes a person to procrastinate?

Did you ever ask yourself, “Why do I procrastinate?”

In a second, you will learn practical tips on ‘how to not procrastinate’, but first let’s find out what actually causes a person to procrastinate…

A) You might be over analyzing the situation or the reasons for doing whatever you need to do. This is known as Analysis Paralysis. In Internet Marketing arena, this can be cause by having too much information (Information Overload) and not enough scalable action.

Instead of learning one strategy and applying it to their business or just simply implementing it, some people become learning ‘junkies’ and learn about everything and anything that has to do with doing business online.

There is nothing wrong with learning new things and being knowledgeable in any particular topic; however, over doing it and not implementing the learned material may hurt some people in the long run.

B) You might experience anxiety associated with that particular task (action). What is interesting, is that you may not consciously know that you experience anxiety associated with that task due to its deep nature. In other words, you might have some past experience that conditioned you not to enjoy that particular task (action, situation) ‘very much’.

Sometimes people can program themselves while not even having the slightest idea they are doing it.

For example, you probably have heard people saying, “I am not a good writer,” “I can’t write,” “Writing is my weakness,” or anything of that sort… If they have been saying that to themselves for a long time, then the chances are… writing really became their ‘weakness’.

C) You might have a really busy life and your day’s filled with all kinds of tasks and places you have to be at. However, busy does not necessarily mean productive.

You might be busy doing (or reacting) random daily tasks that just happen to appear on your way as you go through the day instead of consciously implementing (or acting) the things that will get you closer to your desired goal.

There is a good chance that you get so swept away by all kinds of things that happen during the day that you simply say to yourself: “I will do this tomorrow or another time, when I get a moment to sit down and truly focus.”

This is not a good thing because it tends to repeat itself, if you already haven’t noticed that…

This is the Part 1 in the “How To Stop Procrastination And Analysis Paralysis” Series… In the Part 2, I will give really practical solutions you can apply to stop procrastination and get things done… so stay tuned!
